Unfortunately, much of the popular programs still lacks some or all of this features and had to be ruled away even if they work perfectly on everyday desktop computers (for example: XMMS).

Some compromises had to be made and search for better applications is currently my primal occupation in building my box. In this section I'll explain which applications I'm currently using and why, but I'll also provide info about any alternatives that I've used before or just experimented with and that in my opinion may still be useful to some readers.

More than in any other section of this site, here is where I'll appreciate your input about other applications that you think can be better suited for the task. Beer in mind only three rules that I've mentioned earlier: support for full keyboard control, fullscreen mode and customizable user interface.
